The Galaxy range of plastic pallets has evolved from the need to balance our waste stream, reduce our carbon footprint, and produce a low-cost pallet. To most of us, this would be only a dream, but to Matthew Darby it became a driving passion.
Being involved in the recycling industry, he saw so many products that were not being re-used to their full potential. However, being a curious type, he worked to find a solution. The result was Thermofusion, a process that allowed him to mix high- and low-density polyethylene (formally sent to China as a fuel source) and extrude it to manufacture plastic pallets.
The next move was to produce a robust, hard-wearing, impact-resistant and low-cost pallet that would be suitable for industry use. The Galaxy range was born, and at a low 1.6 cents per day cost to the user, the range provides obvious environmental benefits and a distinct commercial advantage over traditional wooden pallets.
The pallets come in the standard Euro size of 1200 x 1000 mm, are suitable for use in low temperatures, and are compatible with forklift or pallet truck use.
The Milkyway pallet is a four-way entry pallet suitable for use in pallet racking, and has slots in the base which lock in securely between the rails. It is currently being used in warehouses and food industries as it can hold loads up to 2000 kg. Packaging and boxes sitting on the pallet are not subjected to damage from nail pop, or split and broken boards, allowing the packaged goods to arrive at their destination in good, saleable condition.
When left outside, these pallets do not absorb moisture like the traditional wooden pallet. If paper bags or cardboard cartons are loaded onto wet wooden pallets, they soak up this moisture, weakening their integrity.
There are no splinters in hands from plastic pallets, they don’t need constant repair, and they are easy to keep clean, therefore creating a win/win for industry and the environment.
