Ports of Auckland sponsors Round the Bays
Ports of Auckland is this year’s principal sponsor of Auckland’s famous Round the Bays, and entries are now open! This is the first year the port company has sponsored the event, and all funds raised will benefit the Waitemata Harbour Clean-Up Trust.

Auckland’s Round the Bays event starts right on Ports of Auckland’s doorstep
“We are very proud to have the opportunity to support and sponsor this iconic Auckland event for the next three years,” says Ports of Auckland managing director, Jens Madsen. “It’s a natural fit for us because it starts right on our doorstep.”
Round the Bays attracts more than 60,000 participants each year for an 8.4 km fun run along the Auckland waterfront between Quay Street and St Heliers. It is the largest mass-participation sporting event in New Zealand.
Mr Madsen says the partnership is also an opportunity for Ports of Auckland and its staff to work with the community and bring new value to the popular annual event, and the port company’s commitment to responsible environmental management was behind the decision to support the ongoing work of the trust. “The Waitemata Harbour is Auckland’s playground. We all need to work together to preserve it for generations to come,” says Mr Madsen.
Since 2002, the Waitemata Harbour Clean-up Trust has collected more than 1.8 million litres of rubbish from Auckland’s waterways, often with the help of volunteers.
Ports of Auckland Round the Bays 2010 will be held on Sunday 14 March; for further information and to register, visit www.roundthebays.co.nz
