A happy New Year! Welcome back to reality. For those of us fortunate to be able to take a break over the Christmas/New Year period, Mother Nature was kind for once, and we were able to enjoy a few weeks of balmy weather. Not so as I write this editorial. Those making a late return to work will be doing so through floods, localised slips and howling gales, not to mention the ‘king tide’ that swamped coastal areas of Auckland at the weekend, creating a new shoreline in some places. Good luck if you live on the foreshore where no doubt by now you’ll be reconsidering the wisdom of buying property on the beach. read more »

Coastal operator Pacifica Shipping, founded by Otago businessman Sir Clifford Skeggs, has marked its 25th anniversary by publishing a candid and incident-filled book titled Spirit of the Coast.
